Search Engine optimisation - The step by step guide

Step 2 - Choose your keywords

You have your niche and know that with a lot of work you will be able to produce a valuable site based on that niche. It will be a site which people will actually find useful and will want to visit. If you don’t hav ea site which has any use then the only people visiting are people that have been forced to visit due to your hard advertising campaigns. Buying a lot of links to your site will get you high rankings and visitors but if they get your site and realise that there is nothing of use there they will soon leave.

There are several important statistics in website design which you should take notice of. These are the bounce rate of the page, average time spent on the page and the percentage of returning visitors.

What do they mean?

Well time spent spent on the page is obvious. Bounce rate is the percentage of people who leave after just looking at one page. The percentage of returning visitors is the percentage of people who return to the site. You want to get bounce rate as low as possible and the other two as high as possible.

Can you buy traffic to your site?

So you can’t arsed to spend time to promote your site by word of mouth. You have decided to take the easy option of buying traffic. You have found a site which promises 10,000 visitors in the next week for only £10. It promises these visitors will be unique and will be highly targetted to the niche of your website. This is complete bollocks! Ignore these sites!

The truth is, there is no way to easily buy thousands of targetted visitors unless you use a campaign such as adwords. OK, you can buy thousands of visitors but instead of being £0.001 per visitor they will be at least 10p per visitor.

The so called targetted traffic you can buy i snot targetted. Normally it involves your site loading as a popup on other sites or maybe they are not even real people but instead bots programmed to look like unique visitors. These visitors then stay on your site for under 10 seconds. They will not return and they will not visit more than one page. They are not interested in what’s on your site as they have been forced to go there.

Choosing your keywords

You should not really write for the search engines. You should write your content for the people that are going to be visiting your site. If you write good content for people and they find it useful then your site will naturally gain backlinks and will naturally get high in the search engines. However, people find this difficult so I will give you a few tips to choosing your keywords.

Use this tool here to find out how many searches a day your keyword is getting. There is no point targetting a keyword which is not getting a lot of searches a day as it will not bring traffic in.

Your keyword must also not have too much competition. There is no point trying to target a keyword such as “home loans”. To find out how competitive your keyword is search on google for it. If there are a lot of results and these results include sites which are highly reputable then chances are you will find it difficult to get high in the search results.

Once you have your set of keywords, begin to write content which includes them. Try to make one page for each keyword or keyphrase. Use the title and headings tags accordingly.

Daily Joke - number 4

Another joke for you all. Something different, an April fool’s joke.

On April 1, 1957 the British news show Panorama broadcast a three-minute segment about a bumper spaghetti harvest in southern Switzerland. The success of the crop was attributed both to an unusually mild winter and to the “virtual disappearance of the spaghetti weevil.” The audience heard Richard Dimbleby, the show’s highly respected anchor, discussing the details of the spaghetti crop as they watched video footage of a Swiss family pulling pasta off spaghetti trees and placing it into baskets. The segment concluded with the assurance that, “For those who love this dish, there’s nothing like real, home-grown spaghetti.”

The Swiss Spaghetti Harvest hoax generated an enormous response. Hundreds of people phoned the BBC wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti tree. To this query the BBC diplomatically replied, “Place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best.”

To this day the Panorama broadcast remains one of the most famous and popular April Fool’s Day hoaxes of all time. It is also believed to be the first time the medium of television was used to stage an April Fool’s Day hoax.

Jumpstyle

Jumpstyle. The new way to dance.

Searching on Youtube brought me to this video. It is a subgenre of hard dance and appears to be only popular in Netherlands and Belgium. It originated in Belgium and developed from hakken which is punching and kicking in the air. Jumpstyle consists of jumping in time to the beat as seen in the videos.

For all those people who would like to learn how to jump watch the video below. Not sure who would. It seems like that to dance like this in a club would be near impossible because each person takes up more than twice the room of a normal person.

Pretty wierd. Glad it’s not become too popular in the UK though. What do you guys think? Comment below. Like this? Then subscribe to my blog.

Search Engine optimisation - The step by step guide

Here’s the SEO guide for you all!

I have spent ages looking on the internet for SEO guides and tips and tricks. This took me a fair amount of time and so I have decided to offer you everything I’ve learnt for free. I am assuming you are a complete beginner and have only just heard of the term SEO.

Okay, first thing’s first, you must think of the website you are going to make. If you have never done anyhthing online before then I’d suggest making a blog using WordPress.

Step 1 - Choose your niche

You must choose a niche which will be able to get enough interest from people in order to get enough traffic in order to make you enough money! The site must be original. There are already thousands of arcade sites out there so getting people to visit your site instead of miniclip.com or addictinggames.com will be incredibly difficult.

You need to choose a niche with limited competition. Do your research. Search in Google to see if there is already a site like the one you want to make. If there is, you must evaluate that site. Do you think you could make a better site? If you can’t then look for another idea.

You must be able to provide a lot of unique and valuable content. Content is king when it comes to making money on the internet. Without original content people will just go elsewhere.

The niche you want to occupy must also be one you can monetize. You need to know how you are going to get your revenue before you start.

The iPod has conquered space!

Apple has finally taken over the world. It’s now headed into space for harder challenges!

What does iPod stand for

You aren’t the only one wondering it! So what really does iPod stand for?

The Apple iPod. It has been the icon of Apple Computers since it first came out back in October 2001. Millions upon millions have sold. The iPod was actually designed by a British man!

“iPOD” = “i” for Internet and “POD” for “Portable Open Database”

So there you have it. iPod stands for Internet Portable Open Database!

Make a website and make money online

I’ll try and give you your first few steps to making a website

So you have around £30 in your bank account. This should be OK, for now.

First thing is first. You need a website. You need somewhere where you can publish original content to begin getting traffic. Driving traffic to your site is how you are going to make your money.

When browsing the internet you will have come across ads down the side of the page you are viewing. They may include flashing banners, ingenious catch phrases or some kind of limited time only offer. These adverts are put by the website owners to get them money. There are two situations in which the advert can make the website owner money. The first is that the advertising company has paid the website a fixed fee to have their ad on their site. The second is that the advertiser pays the website for every click they receive on their ad. Instead of every click they may get money for every action, such as only paying the website for every person who registers and fills out a certain deal.

Placing ads on your site is how you will make your money. This is called affiliate marketing. You are marketing someone elses product.

This method depends on one thing though, the amount of traffic your website which has the advert on receives. Not only this, it also depends on the geographical location of the traffic and the needs the traffic has. It is no use aiming to advertise dog food on a website which gets traffic from people wanting a free iPod Touch. The demographics of your traffic is extremely important.

Where does this traffic come from?

This traffic comes from two places. You could either pay people to come to your site. This is called Paid Per Click advertising where you pay a certain amount of money for every person that clicks to visit your site. The main PPC sites are Google Adwords and Overture (yahoo). This method will cost you money and therefore is probably not suitabl for people starting out in the business. I would recommend trying to get natural traffic. This is where you appear high up on the Google search rankings so your link is more likely to be clicked by a person compared to the link below yours.

Optimizing your page for search engines is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short. Companies spend thousands of pounds paying people to get there websites high up the Search Engine Results Page or SERP for short. They know that the higher up they are on these pages the more traffic they will receive and therefore the more money they will make. People make livings by editing peoples’ websites so they appear high up on the results page.

This is cheating the system though is it not?

Google uses secret algorithms which are run on every site it indexes. It compares the backlinks the site has (backlinks are the number of links found to the site on other sites). For example if you linked to my site on yours I would get one backlink. A backlink is like a vote for that website. The more votes the website has, the higher it will be on the search engine results page. Not only the number but also the reputation of the site voting depends on how it will affect your ranking. If I get one link from www.amazon.co.uk and one link from www.shitsite.com then the link from amazon will be worth much much more.

The reputation of a site as it could be called is decided by page rank. Page rank is the rank a website is given by Google. If you have a page rank of 9 then you have a really popular site. If your site ranks at 1 then Google barely cares about it.

Another way Google chooses where you appear on the results page is by looking at the keywords of your site. If you have a site with a lot of keywords for the word ‘dog food’ then you will appear high on the results page when someone types in dog food. A keyword is just an important word in your site. The user searches in the google box by typing in ‘key words’. In the past users would be able to top the search results page by spamming keywords. This is not possible and is likely to get your website banned from Google completely and so would limit your chances of getting any traffic and any money to something close to zero.

Enough of that mindless ramblings though. TIME TO GET A WEBSITE

First thing to do is to get some hosting. I recommend HostGator as you are able to have multiple domains. It’s not failed me yet and seems to be pretty cheap. Here are some codes to save you some money.

1.) Coupon Code - “iceishot” - $9.94 Off

2.) Coupon code “jury” - $9.94 Off

3.) Coupon code “hgc25? - $9.94 Off

4.) Coupon code “Hostcritique” - $9.94 Off

You must get the Baby package so you can get multiple domains. This means you can have more than one site making you money at any one time.

Once you have the hosting you need to get a domain. A domain is the name of your site. My domain is freeipodsetc.co.uk You can register a domain for one or two years. I suggest you get a domain which has something to do with the website. My website has a lot about freeipodsetc which is why I chose the name. When choosing the name remember you are making a website to make money. This website must have original content. Also, you want as little competition with it as possible. This is why you should choose a niche. A niche is a topic or area which has little other interest but has enough interest for you to get the traffic needed to make money off it. To find a niche simply choose a personal interest which you can write a lot of oringinal content on.

Content is king.

Remember, the content your website has will have a huge impact on the amount of traffic it will receive. Facebook has good content. It is a good site which users want to visit again and again. Your site must be like this. People must want to visit your site and tell your friends about it too! If they visit your site and think, oh, this is shit then you have lost one potential customer already.

I am going to show you how to make money off a blog like this. Therefore you will not need to think up a genius idea like Facebook. You will, however, need to be able to have the ability to write pages and pages of unique content. This could be anything from model planes to wine making.

That was a big tangent, sorry.

Right, you need a name for your website. To get one go here. It’s really simple to do, just choose a name which hasn’t been taken and fill in the correct details. I would recommend turning off automatic rebilling as you may not want to have the domain for longer than a year.

How to make money from advertising LOVEFiLM

Are you an affiliate who is advertising LOVEFiLMs two week trial?

If you are, you will realise that they are only payig out £13.50 for each referral you are sending them. Have you ever thought of a way which will get you more than this £13.50? The truth is there is a way and it probably won’t harm your conversion rates too much.

FreeiPodsetc.co.uk was first made to advertise the incentive schemes which have sprung up on the internet. These are the schemes which revolve round signing up, completing an offer and then referring a few friends to do the same. But how does this make you more money from LOVEFiLM?

The thing is, LOVEFiLM is found on these free iPod sites. Users are able to complete LOVEFiLM as there offer to get their free gift. So if 5 people completed the LOVEFiLM offer you would expect the free iPod site to send out 5 x £13.50 worth of gifts! This is where you are wrong. The site is able to send out items of a greater cost than the money they receive directly from the referrals. They are able to do this because they rely on a certain percentage of people not being able to complete the requirements. This percentage is high enough to ensure that the site can afford to send out the free items.

How does this help you? Well, if you advertise the free iPod site simply as a place where people can sign up for a free trial at LOVEFiLM you will be able to get more than the £13.50 per referral. The free iPod sites are give away bank transfers at £17.50 a referral. In some cases you can get up to £21 a referral. This means you will make a hell of a lot more by promoting LOVEFiLM through this free iPod site than just straight through the affiliate. It also means you won’t have to wait the 2 months it takes for LOVEFiLM to pay you as the free iPod sites only take 3 weeks to pay you.

Lets look at an example. If you refer 50 people to Lovefilm today you coul either make £675 by simply being an affiliate to LOVEFiLM or you could make a staggering £1020. That’s an extra £345 a day! You will also receive it 5 weeks earlier!

Think about it. You will probably also find it easier to promote LOVEFiLM with the opportunity of a free gift than simply LOVEFiLM on its own. You also don’t have to own a website. You could just refer your friends and family to LOVEFiLM.

This idea works. I’ve made over £10,000 from it. To find out more visit here
